Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Houston seeks a proactive aquatics leader to develop, organize, implement, and evaluate aquatic programs across assigned centers.

You will supervise staff and volunteers, ensure safety compliance, and coordinate lifeguard training, swim instruction, and water fitness classes. The role includes budgeting, marketing support, and community outreach to grow the program and support healthy living initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
• One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics coordinator or supervisor.
• Minimum age requirement of 21.
• Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
• Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications: Lifeguard Certification including BLS, Adult and Pediatric First Aid, Oxygen, Swim Instructor, and Lifeguard Instructor certifications.

Responsibilities

• Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives and expands program within the community.
• Recruits, hires, trains, and directs personnel and volunteers; reviews staff performance and maintains certifications.
• Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to health and safety regulations.
• Maintains pool facilities and records of chemicals and maintenance.
• Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
• Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness, and swim team practices.
• Assists in marketing and distribution of program information.
• Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
• Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and events.
• Responds to member inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
• Attends Aquatics Cabinets Meetings and maintains aquatic records.
