Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a dedicated Aquatics Supervisor to provide leadership for lifeguards and swim instructors and to ensure safe swimming conditions across pool areas. The role emphasizes enforcing safety rules, managing schedules, and maintaining equipment and records.

The candidate will support staff development, conduct audits, and assist with program activities and events while adhering to YMCA standards and state health codes.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 20 years.
• Two to three years related experience, preferred.
• Proficiency in Life Guard skills per YMCA policies.
• Current YMCA Life Guard or Red Cross Life Guard; obtain YMCA Life Guard certification within 30 days of hire.
• Current or must obtain: YMCA Swim Instructor Certification.
• ASHI certifications required (CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, etc.).
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups in the community.

Responsibilities

• Know and execute all emergency procedures; lead in emergencies.
• Enforce safety rules and testing procedures for pool and aquatics areas.
• Maintain pool and area cleanliness and equipment; backwash and chemical adjustments.
• Ensure pool chemical testing, daily checks, and opening/closing procedures with records.
• Monitor pool hazards and prevent accidents; communicate risks.
• Maintain required certifications per YMCA standards.
• Lead and guide lifeguards and swim instructors.
• Perform aquatics audits, drills, and skill evaluations.
• Document incidents, member concerns, and equipment needs to Director.
• Create and coordinate lifeguard and swim instructor schedules.
• Coordinate facility use for programs and events.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; complete required in-service hours.
• Assist with YMCA Annual Campaign and special events.
• Report suspicious behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
• Meet timelines related to supporting systems and compliance.
