YMCA of South Hampton Roads is hiring a Swim Instructor to lead and motivate students in swimming lessons. You will build strong connections with families and help participants develop water safety skills in a welcoming, inclusive environment.

The role requires instructing classes per YMCA guidelines, maintaining records, and participating in trainings. Eligible candidates must meet certification requirements and be at least 16 years old. This on-site position emphasizes safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification. If associate is Red Cross WSI certified he or she must crossover to YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor within 180 days of employment
• Current ASHI BLS, Basic First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification (or equivalent) from recognized bodies. BLS is valid for one year
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards
• At least 16 years of age

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, using prepared lesson plans
• Builds authentic relationships with students and parents; encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers students/parents to other programs
• Maintains records as required (attendance, progress reports)
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled
• Follows all YMCA policies, safety procedures, and completes incident reports as necessary
• Organizes class equipment and reports damaged items
• Adheres to safety guidelines and COVID-19 prevention measures
• Assists in all areas and completes projects assigned by supervisor
