Job summary

The Summit Bechtel Reserve in Glen Jean, WV seeks an Aquatics Coordinator to lead department staff, train lifeguards, and deliver engaging water-based programs for Scouts.

You will supervise scheduling, manage paperwork, and maintain safe, organized program areas in a hands-on camp setting, with staff housing and a 45–55 hour work week. Must be 21+, with lifeguard instructor and aquatics director credentials or the ability to obtain them.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 21+
• Current Red Cross Lifeguard instructor certification or ability to obtain before start
• Current NCS Aquatics Director card or ability to obtain before start
• 2+ years leading teams, preferably Summit employment
• Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (background screening)
• Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication

Responsibilities

• Lead department staff, including admin items such as scheduling and training
• Teach aquatics-based merit badges and lessons
• Present in front of group sizes of 2–24 youth and transfer knowledge
• Turn in advancement paperwork to supervisor in a timely manner
• Assist with the set-up, maintenance, and take down of program areas
• Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions
• Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area
• Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership
• Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbook

Provide high quality aquatics-based opportunities for all guests while fostering an environment of fun and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead department staff, including admin items such as scheduling and training
• Teach aquatics-based merit badges a lessons
• Present in front of group sizes of 2-24 youth and transfer knowledge
• Turn in advancement paperwork to supervisor in a timely manner
• Assist with the set-up, maintenance, and take down of program areas
• Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions
• Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area
• Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership

Physical & Practical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, swim, and paddle up to 8 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
• Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
• Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp | Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform | Work Hours: 45-55
