Job summary

Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia seeks a capable leader to supervise and guide the Summit Experience team, delivering a high-adventure, safe, and memorable experience for Scouts and Scouters.

You will coach staff, gather feedback, and contribute to reports and camp-wide activities while modeling the Scout Oath and Law. This role requires strong customer service, teamwork, and readiness for outdoor setting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 21+.
  • Valid driver license and ability to obtain driving permit.
  • Experience in Scouting and/or outdoor recreation.
  • National Camping School Resident Camp/Program Director card (training provided).
  • Two or more years leading teams or Summit work experience.
  • Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (background screening).
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise, coach, and counsel the Summit Experience team to ensure guests have a safe and fun experience.
  • Communicate with guests and staff to ensure quality experience and implement adjustments based on feedback.
  • Provide formal and informal feedback to Summit Experience staff (performance evaluations).
  • Write end-of-season report, including inventories, recommendations, and department improvements.
  • Provide leadership to and participate in camp-wide activities (campfires, ceremonies, etc.).
  • Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership.
  • Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbook.

Position Overview

Provide front-line orientation, guidance, and customer service to all Summit Experience participants (Scouts and Scouters), creating an high-adventure experience that will be remembered for a lifetime.

Key Responsibilities

Physical & Practical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and hike, up to 10 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
  • Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
  • Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp | Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform | Work Hours: 55+
