Our most popular and exciting activities at BB Camp are those in our aquatics department! Our facilities include both a pool (9 ft deep) and a lake, offering a wide variety of activities, including swimming, canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and tubing. This summer, we are looking for a dynamic Aquatics Director to oversee the different areas of our aquatics department. An Aquatics Director is responsible for giving extra support to Aquatics Specialists/Lifeguards, acting as a role model, ensuring their specialty areas are ready and safe for use, and ensuring that both themselves and the other Aquatics Specialists carry out their duties in a safe way that is in line with their training.
Specific Responsibilities
- Responsible for the upkeep, safety, and running of program areas and their on-site supplies: The Pool Area and Waterfront/Dock Area.
- Responsible for lifeguarding/scheduling lifeguards for both pool and open water locations. Create daily schedules for aquatics staff, including on and off-duty times.
- Must possess strong swimming skills and pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training & Certification course.
- Oversee and conduct swim tests of every person on-site who plans to swim at any point during their time at Camp.
- Responsible for daily cleaning and weekly updates of all water locations. Assist and coordinate in the setting up and taking down of aquatics areas and activities.
- Assist in providing aquatics staff training, both pre-camp and as needed throughout the summer.
- Know of and enforce all aquatics policies and procedures.
- Identify and prevent hazards occurring in aquatic areas.
- Operating and managing all aquatics areas/activities.
- Be a resource of knowledge about all aquatic areas/activities for all aquatics staff.
- Instruct aquatics activities in a manner that ensures the safe use of equipment, checks for understanding, and appeals to multiple learning styles.
- Conduct daily checks of all aquatics areas and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
- Evaluate the aquatic abilities of participants in aquatics activities, predict where challenges might occur, and help Aquatics Specialists and Bunk Counselors act accordingly.
- Report any safety concerns or dangerous occurrences to the Camp Director.

Compensation
$2100/season
Requirements
- Must be 21+ years of age.
- Must currently hold or have previously held an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
- Have a basic understanding of child development.
- Ability to communicate effectively with campers and fellow staff.
- Extensive knowledge and expertise in First Aid/CPR/AED, especially within water settings.
- Experience supervising and leading a team of aquatics staff.
- Demonstrate maturity, respect, and kindness.
- Must have a valid Oregon or Washington recognized Boater’s license.
- 3+ years of lifeguarding or equivalent experience preferred.
