Job Description

$15.00 - $18.00 PER HOUR

Have you ever wanted to be a skilled meat cutter? Did you know that our meat cutters have the potential to earn $35,000 a year plus great benefits? If you enjoy early mornings, working with your hands, and value high-quality fresh meat products, our program may be a great fit for you. An apprentice is someone who works to learn the trade, specifically meat cutting.

This is a 36-week program where individuals passionate about learning meat cutting work alongside experienced managers, sausage makers, chicken cutters, and beef cutters. After completion, apprentices are evaluated; if certified, they receive a raise and may be placed into a permanent position or fill shifts across multiple stores until a position is available.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

This position mentors individuals interested in becoming meat cutters, teaching Harmons' standards and expectations. The person will learn to ensure the quality, freshness, safety, and profitability of our fresh cut meat products and assist in preparing beef, pork, chicken, and turkey products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Follow departmental and store policies and procedures
  2. Ensure the quality and freshness of all products and services
  3. Maintain appropriate product assortment and inventory levels
  4. Verify signage and accurate pricing, especially for ad items
  5. Keep the meat department clean and sanitized daily
  6. Provide excellent customer service
  7. Learn and practice producing all cuts of beef, pork, chicken, and turkey
  8. Assist with custom meat orders
  9. Accurately fill out logs and documentation for food safety
  10. Learn techniques for grinding and wrapping meat products
  11. Minimize waste by following production sheets and checking dates
  12. Restock products as needed
  13. Complete tasks efficiently and timely
  14. Set a professional and positive example
  15. Maintain safety, sanitation, and productivity standards
  16. Support the overall success of the meat department
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS:

The work environment is generally safe and comfortable, with exposure to hot, cold, and wet conditions. Tasks may require grasping, pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, twisting, crouching, reaching, repetitive motions, and coordination. Standing, walking, and bending are required, with the ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
