Job description

At Academy Sports + Outdoors, our Purpose is to make it easier for everyone to enjoy more sports and outdoors. Our Softlines department outfits a wide variety of customers, from parents shopping for back-to-school to premier athletes. The Softlines Sales Team Lead drives projects and initiatives for the apparel and footwear teams, impacting customer satisfaction, store profitability, and aligning with Academy’s Purpose.

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.

Work Experience: At least two (2) years of relevant experience required.

Additional Requirements: Ability to support people and processes to drive operational excellence and meet sales targets. Must meet federal and state requirements for selling and processing firearms transactions, including qualifying for and maintaining an FOID card (Illinois only).

Skills:

  • Excellent customer service orientation; effective problem solver and communicator
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow safety rules, instructions, and manuals
  • Proficient in preparing reports and correspondence
  • Understand and apply instructions in various formats
  • Working knowledge of inventory software, order processing, and Microsoft Office

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and guide sales team members in Apparel and Footwear to ensure exceptional customer service and operational execution
  2. Assist with daily operational planning and oversee process improvement projects
  3. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and laws, including firearm sales regulations
  4. Participate in floor walks and support departmental zoning and recovery processes
  5. Complete Firearms Sales Certification Training and adhere to safety and company policies
  6. Perform other duties as assigned, with flexibility for schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays

Physical Requirements & Attendance:

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Regularly talk, hear, stand, walk, and use hands for handling and feeling
  • Occasionally sit, climb, balance, and lift up to 60 pounds with assistance
