Job summary

The State of North Carolina’s Department of Adult Correction seeks an Accounting Specialist (NS) to oversee accounts payable and related financial processes in the Controller’s Office. This role supervises four Accounting Technicians and ensures compliance with GAAP and state policies while optimizing financial operations.

Key duties include resolving payment and invoice issues, generating NCFS reports, and training staff on financial procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of accounting methods and GAAP; capable of preparing fiscal reports and analyzing financial statements.
• Experience communicating policies and procedures to staff and external stakeholders.
• Proven experience supervising lower-level staff in financial functions.

Responsibilities

• Resolving complex invoice, payment, lease, and purchase order issues.
• Monitoring NCFS-related invoices and ensuring processing within 10 business days.
• Generating and analyzing NCFS reports to resolve holds, credits, and delays.
• Using Excel and PivotTables to research and compare financial data.
• Communicating accounting policies and procedures to staff.
