Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Referral Coordinator for Park Ridge, IL. This per diem, part-time role offers 16 hours per pay period with a Monday–Friday schedule from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

You will support providers, connect with patients, and ensure a seamless, compassionate referral process within the ambulatory care team.

Key duties include collecting referrals, obtaining approvals, processing referrals based on PCP orders, and generating necessary communications for referrals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3-4 years experience in a managed care organization, hospital or physician’s office with 1 year referral experience.
• Excellent medical terminology comprehension and its effective usage.
• Completion of 1 Medical Terminology class with certificate of completion.

Responsibilities

• Collect referrals from medical staff daily and obtain necessary approvals from attendings.
• Process referrals for patients based on PCP orders and follow-up with specialist services.
• Generate correspondence or calls to patients, physicians and office staff, managed care organizations or vendors for referral information and requirements.
• Prepare referral information in the automated system and gather medical necessity documentation for approval.
• Identify potential problems with referral payments and coordinate with PHO and other managed care specialists.
