Job summary

Advocate Health Care is seeking a Referral Specialist to manage referral workflows, ensure approvals, and coordinate with physicians and staff in Park Ridge. You will process referrals, prepare necessary correspondence, and input data into the system to support timely authorizations.

The role requires strong medical terminology skills and 3-4 years in a managed care setting with at least 1 year of referral experience. This is a per diem, 16-hour-per-pay-period position in a hospital environment.

Qualifications

• H.S. diploma or G.E.D. required.
• 3-4 years of experience in a managed care organization, hospital or physician’s office with 1 year referral experience.
• Excellent medical terminology comprehension and its effective usage.
• Completion of 1 Medical Terminology class with certificate of completion.

Responsibilities

• Collect referrals daily from medical staff and obtain approvals from attendings.
• Process referrals for patients based on orders and follow-up specialist services.
• Generate correspondence or calls to patients, physicians and vendors requesting information for referral authorization.
• Input referral information in the automated system and collect supporting medical documentation for approval.
• Identify potential problems with payment of charges from referrals and coordinate with PHO and managed care specialists.
