University of Maryland Medical System is seeking an Ambulatory Practice Coordinator to support scheduling, patient registration, and care coordination in a busy clinic environment.

The role involves managing referrals, authorizations, and communications with patients, families, and referral sources, while adhering to HIPAA and UMMS policies.

Experience in healthcare administration and EMR systems is required, with leadership duties and collaboration across practice leadership and finance teams.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three years general clerical/administrative experience.
  • Two years of experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of health insurance plans including Medicare and Medical Assistance required.
  • Proficiency with computers.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule appointments for practice visits and treatments.
  • Schedule outpatient tests and procedures.
  • Register patients with demographics and insurance information; obtain referrals and authorizations.
  • Coordinate referrals and prepare outreach materials.
  • Provide patients with fee disclosures and estimated charges, and educate on these.
  • Prepare after-visit summaries and inform patients of upcoming appointments and changes.
  • Assist patients and staff with hospital policies and directions.
  • Handle front desk and call center communications and documentation in the EMR system.
  • Mentor APC I/II and hiring of clinic staff.
  • Collaborate with leadership on administrative workflows and revenue cycle issues.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and department meetings.
