Job Description

Under general supervision, performs scheduling, pre‑authorization, and administrative activities for patients. Ensures accurate registration, interviews patients to obtain necessary demographic and insurance information.

Principal Responsibilities And Tasks
  • Assist in patient care coordination such as scheduling appointments for practice visits and treatment in accordance with physicians’ schedules while adhering to practice and UMMS policies and procedures.
  • Schedule outpatient tests and procedures as required.
  • Enter and verify patient demographics and insurance information. Obtain appropriate referrals and authorizations as needed. Accurately document all within the EMR system.
  • Create, prepare, and coordinate outgoing referrals.
  • Provide patients with Facility Fee Disclosure, estimate of charges, and education regarding each fee when appropriate stell Video.
  • Prepare after‑visit summaries and inform patients of upcoming appointments, changes to schedules, required co‑payments, and pertinent insurance information.
  • Provide patients, family members and referral sources with information regarding hospital policies, programs, wayfinding, and parking.
  • Multitask ře in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining professionalism, flexibility, and an organized work environment.
  • Assist with office supply tracking and ordering.
  • Utilize a multi‑line phone system and call‑center software to handle internal and external calls related to patient care coordination—including scheduling and canceling appointments, verifying demographics, and entering written documentation efficiently within the EMR system.
  • Review and reconcile EMR work queues toLugar the need for a new referral or authorization prior to patient arrival.
  • Assist the Ambulatory Practice Coordinator I as required.
  • Participate in mock, regulatory, and accreditation surveys.
  • Actively assist patients with MyPortfolio engagement and education.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum of one year of general clerical and/or administrative experience required, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Proficiency with computers required.
  • Proficiency with registration and scheduling and call‑center software preferred.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various insurance coverage (e.g., Medicaid, HMOs, UMMS partners) preferred.
  • Highly effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills for communicating hospital policies and procedures to medical staff, colleagues, patients, and visitors.
  • Ability to complete intake information and respond promptly to instructions given.
  • Effective listening skills and ability to translate patient information into written and electronic documentation.
  • PC literate with ability to retrieve andрар enter demographic, financial, and patient information on an online registration system शैली.
