Job summary

Mayo Clinic is seeking an Ambulatory Registered Nurse (RN) in the Plastic Surgery department to support preoperative and postoperative care for adult surgical patients across subspecialties such as Breast Reconstruction, Craniofacial Surgery, Lymphedema, and Gender-Affirming Care. The RN will cross-train to cover multiple areas as needed.

The role emphasizes patient education, coordination of care, and strong collaboration with surgeons, residents, NPs/PAs, and other health professionals.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a nursing program recognized by ACEN/CCNE/NLN CNEA; one year RN experience required.
• All entry-level RN with a start date in 2020 or later must provide evidence of a baccalaureate degree within five years.
• At least one year of floor nursing experience; plastics OR OR experience is helpful.
• Strong RN assessment skills with surgical patients and the ability to make independent decisions within the RN scope of practice.
• Excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching abilities; may participate in committees or projects.
• Ability to navigate electronic health record systems and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Preoperative and postoperative patient evaluation, counseling, and education; reinforce disease processes and care management.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary care and facilitate non-face-to-face patient triage.
• Interact with the electronic health record system to manage orders, create surgical listings, and coordinate with other specialties.
• Lead and participate in quality improvement efforts and teamwork within the surgical unit.
