Job summary

Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, seeks an Alternate Format Assistant within the Accessibility Resources for Students Office to convert required texts, music, and course material into accessible documents for registered students and faculty.

Reporting to the Access Advisor, the role supports confidentiality, FERPA compliance, and collaboration with staff to maintain inventory and records while assisting with data related to service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Berklee undergraduate degree program.
  • Availability to work hours between 9:00am and 5:00pm on Mondays through Fridays.
  • Literate in musical composition and using notation software (Sibelius).
  • Familiarity with Berklee’s undergraduate and core music curriculum is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn and utilise new technology platforms.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Excels in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to Accessibility Resources for Students Access Advisor.
  • Assist Accessibility Resources for Students staff with converting required texts, music, and course material into accessible documents for registered students and faculty.
  • Maintain inventory of alternate format texts and materials.
  • Maintain required records of service provision and logs of requested materials.
  • Assist staff in developing, collecting and managing data related to service delivery.
  • Comply with FERPA regulations.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Accessibility Resources for Students Director and Access Advisor based on interest and abilities.
  • Answer phones, screen calls, and check/log voicemail.
  • Monitor ticketing system for unresolved phone messages, and respond appropriately.
  • Provide frontline coverage as needed.

Job description

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate‑seeking undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre‑registered for the upcoming fall semester.
  • This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
  • Federal Work Study student may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.

The Accessibility Resources for Students Alternate Format Assistant will primarily assist in the alternative format conversion of course text.

The student will report to the Accessibility Resources for Students Access Advisor.

The Accessibility Resources for Students Alternate Format Assistant must uphold confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

(90%) Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Reports to Accessibility Resources for Students Access Advisor
  • Assist Accessibility Resources for Students staff with converting required texts, music, and course material into accessible documents for registered students and faculty
  • Maintain inventory of alternate format texts and materials
  • Maintain required records of service provision and logs of requested materials
