Job summary

The Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations (BABLO) in Augusta seeks a Liquor Tax Examiner to join a collaborative regulatory team responsible for audits, compliance assistance, and registrations. This intermediate-level role offers limited remote work, ongoing training, and clear pathways for professional growth within Maine state government.

Qualifications

• Experience in accounting or auditing.

Responsibilities

• Review, compare, and validate excise tax reports and records submitted by wholesalers and Certificate of Approval holders.
• Conduct audits of invoices, reports, and other financial and regulatory records.
• Issuing approvals or denials of alcoholic beverage label registrations and related regulatory filings.
• Reconciling funds and accounts, processing refunds, and collecting non-sufficient payments.
• Correspond with and provide professional customer service to industry members to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and best practices.
• Review advertisements and promotions.
