Job summary

Hudson Group at Des Moines International Airport is hiring a Retail Shift Manager I to support store leadership in delivering excellent customer experiences and maintaining high retail standards. You will supervise hourly staff, coach on SOPs, ensure proper cash handling, and monitor merchandising and inventory to optimize performance.

You will lead scheduling, training, and adherence to brand guidelines, while escalating issues to leadership to ensure operational readiness during shifts.

Qualifications

• Requires 2+ years of retail and/or customer service experience.
• Requires minimum 6 months of supervisory or lead experience in retail or customer service.
• Knowledge of POS systems and retail management software.
• Experience in book retail or reading enthusiasm is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Execute SOPs during shifts, ensuring brand standards and coaching hourly associates.
• Keep merchandise displays clean, stocked, and visually appealing; report maintenance needs.
• Review timekeeping punches and monitor overtime to comply with labor laws and budgets.
• Assign tasks to associates and ensure rest breaks and meals are taken per regulations.
• Escalate performance concerns and provide guidance to improve performance and standards.
• Operate POS and process transactions while following cash handling policies.
• Monitor inventory levels, assist with receiving, and report discrepancies to management.
• Ensure adherence to retail policies and train staff on visual merchandising and brand standards.
• Implement planogram changes and manage seasonal displays in line with brand guidelines.
• Deliver excellent customer service and create engaging displays for book products.
• Coach associates on product knowledge and customer engagement and recognize high performers.
