Katy ISD CREECH ELEMENTARY is hiring an Aide - SPED to support students with disabilities. The role includes clerical and instructional tasks, student care, and assisting teachers with planned activities and therapy programs.

The position requires valid Texas Educational Aide II certification or equivalent qualifications and CPI certification where possible. Immediate start with 187 duty days.

Qualifications

  • College hours for Title I campus: 48 hours required or ParaPro 464.
  • Non-Title I campus: 15 college hours or HS diploma/GED with ParaPro 464.
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide II certificate.
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment.
  • Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment).

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to federal, state and local policies for SPED aides.
  • Assist in carrying out instructional programs and activities.
  • Maintain student records, audit folders and data collection.
  • Prepare, use and maintain instructional materials and equipment.
  • Support teachers with planned activities and drills.
  • Provide personal care and assistance with self-care activities as needed.
  • Implement therapy programs which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Attend meetings and orient substitute teachers.
  • Provide CPI techniques as required.

Qualifications:

College hours for Title I campus 48 required or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test

College hours 15 or high school diploma or GED (with a passing score of 464 on the ParaPro test) for Non-Title I campus

Valid Texas Educational Aide II certificate

Ability to work with children with disabilities

Ability to follow verbal and written instruction

Ability to communicate effectively

Knowledge of general office equipment

Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment)

Please Note: Additional Qualification for Title I Campus:

College hours, 48 minimum or score of 464 on the ParaPro test

Primary Purpose:

Clerical, instructional and student-care duties as assigned

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
  • Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
  • Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
  • Assist in maintaining student records, audit folders and data collection.
  • Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
  • Assist when needed in helping students in self care activities such as feeding and toileting.
  • Assist in implementing the therapy programs which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Attend professional meetings as required.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Equipment Used:

Personal computer, copier, printer, voice output devices, playground equipment and motor lab equipment.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; occasional running, heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over daily, positioning of students, moving classroom or adaptive equipment , noise exposure, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students. May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint.
