Job summary

FREEMAN HIGH in Katy, Texas is seeking an Aide - SPED - Structured Autism to support classroom instruction and student care. The role reports to the Principal and involves assisting with therapy programs, activities, and materials.

Responsibilities include maintaining records, following instructions, and providing personal care as needed. The position is full‑time with a 187‑day schedule and non‑exempt status.

Qualifications

• College hours 48 for Title I campus or ParaPro score 464.
• College hours 15 or HS diploma or GED with ParaPro 464 for non-Title I campus.
• Valid Texas Educational Aide II certificate.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Knowledge of general office equipment.
• Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment).

Responsibilities

• Adhere to federal, state and local policies related to special education aides.
• Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
• Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
• Help maintain student records, audit folders and data collection.
• Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
• Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
• Assist in helping students in self care activities such as feeding and toileting.
• Assist in implementing therapy programs which may require lifting and positioning.
• Attend professional meetings as required.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
• Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
• Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Equipment Used: Personal computer, copier, printer, voice output devices, playground equipment and motor lab equipment.

Working Conditions: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; occasional running, heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over daily, positioning of students, moving classroom or adaptive equipment , noise exposure, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students. May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint.
