Job summary

FALDYN ELEMENTARY in Katy, TX seeks an Aide - Special Education to support students with disabilities under a non-exempt contract. 187 work days, immediate start, and supervision by the Principal.

Primary duties include assisting instructional activities, maintaining records, and supporting therapy-related tasks. Qualifications include 48 college hours or ParaPro 464 for Title I, or alternativas for Non-Title I, plus a Texas educational aide certificate.

Qualifications

• Must have Title I campus: 48 college hours or a 464 ParaPro score
• For Non-Title I campus: college hours, HS diploma or GED
• Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate is required
• Ability to work with children with disabilities
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Knowledge of general office equipment
• CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment)

Responsibilities

• Adhere to policies and procedures related to special education aides.
• Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
• Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
• Assist in maintaining student records, audit folders and data collection.
• Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
• Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
• Assist with helping students in self-care activities such as feeding and toileting.
• Assist in implementing therapy programs which may require lifting and positioning.
• Attend professional meetings as required.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.

Primary Purpose:

Clerical, instructional and student-care duties as assigned

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Equipment Used:

Personal computer, copier, printer, voice output devices, playground equipment and motor lab equipment.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; occasional running, heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over daily, positioning of students, moving classroom or adaptive equipment , noise exposure, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students. May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint.
