Job summary

Supabase seeks a Software Engineer, AI Tooling Infrastructure to build and operate the backend services behind its AI products. You’ll own authentication, observability, and reliability for high-traffic AI tooling, collaborating with Platform, SRE, and edge teams.

The role emphasizes systems and infrastructure work, not product AI development. You’ll be part of a fast-paced, globally distributed team, taking on pager-duty and on-call responsibilities while shaping scalable, secure developer

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and running backend services in production.
• Strong in TypeScript or Go and comfortable with the other language.
• Designed and operated APIs with versioning, error handling, rate limiting.
• Knowledge of OAuth, OIDC, JWT and API authorization.
• Good PostgreSQL and relational database understanding.
• Familiar with CI/CD, Docker, containerized deployments and IaC.
• Able to debug across services using metrics, traces and logs.
• Clear written communication and ability to work asynchronously with stakeholders.
• Thrives in ambiguity and fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate production backend services behind Supabase AI products.
• Own service structure, including splitting or reshaping for safety and change.
• Define and meet reliability targets; set SLOs with the SRE team.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident follow-ups and runbooks.
• Triage the support queue and turn recurring issues into fixes.
• Own authentication/authorization for AI and agent clients.
• Own observability including metrics, traces, logs, dashboards and alerts.
• Manage capacity and abuse for agent traffic and rate limits.
• Improve service architecture as they grow, including splitting services.
• Collaborate with Platform and SRE teams on code, releases, and infra.
