Job summary

refurbed is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for internal AI to design, build, and operate production-grade back-end services powering our AI-native transformation. You will own end-to-end deployments, security, monitoring, and reliability for internal tools.

You will collaborate with the Head of Internal Technology & AI and partner with platform teams to evaluate options, implement reusable AI capabilities, and ensure safe, scalable tools for non-engineers across the company.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating production systems in Go or Python.
• Experience with AI/LLM-powered applications and their lifecycle.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants like Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
• Ability to evaluate tools and make build-vs-buy decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate reliable back-end services and APIs powering internal AI tools.
• Manage a secure deployment path enabling non-engineers to launch internal tools with guardrails.
• Develop reusable AI capabilities and a central registry of internal tools, ownership, and costs.
• Evaluate architectural options and decide on build vs buy for AI integrations.
