Job summary

Gusto, a leading payroll and HR platform, seeks a technical Solutions Engineer to own discovery and delivery of end-to-end deployments for clients. You’ll scope opportunities, build prototypes, and ship production-grade agents that automate complex tax and compliance workflows live with customers.

You’ll collaborate with sales, product, and engineering while shaping repeatable patterns for future engagements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a customer-facing technical role (e.g., Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Engineer, AI Engineer, Implementation Engineer, Solutions Architect).
• Proven track record shipping production systems in client-facing environments with REST APIs, webhooks, event-driven systems, auth patterns, data modeling, idempotency, and failure modes.
• Deep technical discovery skills to navigate ambiguity and scope technical solutions from opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Scope & Qualify: Provide a technical feasibility read early on ambiguous Enterprise opportunities, then own scoping the compliance challenge after sales qualification.
• Define the Problem: Gather requirements for complex opportunities to align Sales, Product, and Engineering.
• Prove It First: Build a working proof-of-concept when feasibility is needed before full build.
• Make the Business Case: Translate deployments into the subscription justification (hours saved, risk reduced, compliance simplified).
• Own the Build: Embed with clients and write code to run compliance decisions live.
• Clear the Blockers: Diagnose data issues and jurisdiction mapping that hinder production.
• Bridge the Gap: Align technical and business stakeholders as requirements evolve.
• Own the Handoff: Deliver the build and a runbook for Client Success.
• Close the Loop: Feed learnings back into product and go-to-market strategy.
• Create Implementation Playbooks: patterns, demo flows, and deployment docs for future deployments.
