Job summary

Cogent Security is seeking a Security Researcher to build the offensive side of our research—turning red team tradecraft into autonomous AI-enabled capabilities. You will own the loop from reconnaissance through post-exploitation, shaping how attacker expertise becomes agentic capability.

You will design and operate cyber ranges, extend red team coverage across Windows, AD, on-prem and cloud, and develop benchmarks to prove improvements.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in offensive security, red team operations, or adversary emulation.
• Hands-on operator who has run full-chain operations end-to-end - initial access through post-exploitation - across Windows, Active Directory, and on-prem environments.
• Depth in Command and Control frameworks (e.g., Mythic) and payload development, with real detection-evasion experience against EDR.
• A builder who writes code (e.g., Python) to turn manual tradecraft into repeatable, automatable capability.
• Experience standing up and operating realistic test environments or cyber ranges with production defenses in place (EDR, SIEM, logging).

Responsibilities

• Design and build red team agents, architect the agent harness, MCP servers, and skills encoding operator workflows from scoping to post-exploitation.
• Extend red team coverage to full attack chains across Windows, AD, on-prem and cloud environments; collaborate with cloud security researchers.
• Incorporate detection evasion and verify against real EDR in test harnesses.
• Design and operate cyber ranges with realistic defenses to train, benchmark, and validate agents.
• Develop benchmarks (e.g., IntrusionBench) to prove improvements and feed learnings back to detections.
• Represent Cogent in the offensive security community through talks and open-source contributions.
