Job summary

Cogent Security is seeking a Security Researcher to advance the offensive side of our AI-driven cybersecurity research. You will design red team agents, extend full-chain attack capabilities, and encode tradecraft into autonomous offensive capabilities for our agents and VR-1.

You will operate cyber ranges with real defenses (EDR, SIEM, logging), validate evasion against real adversaries, and represent Cogent in the offensive security community through talks and open-source contributions.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of offensive security experience.
• Hands-on operator with full-chain ops across Windows and on-prem environments.
• Deep knowledge of C2 frameworks (e.g., Mythic) and payload development with detection evasion against EDR.
• Ability to write code (e.g., Python) to turn tradecraft into repeatable capabilities.
• Experience standing up realistic test environments or cyber ranges with production defenses (EDR, SIEM, logging).

Responsibilities

• Design and build red team agents and the agent harness, MCP servers, and encoding skills.
• Drive full-chain attack operations from initial access to post-exploitation across surfaces.
• Extend coverage into cloud, hybrid, and on-prem networks; collaborate with cloud security researchers.
• Own evasion and tradecraft edge, testing detection against real EDR and validating results.
• Design and operate cyber ranges with real defenses for training and benchmarking.
• Build benchmarks turning attack paths into verifiable evaluation tasks.
• Represent Cogent in the offensive security community via talks and open-source contributions.
