EY invites engineers to help turn AI capabilities into durable products, working end-to-end from user conversations to production code. You’ll build verticals across experience, services, data, and AI behavior, with a focus on measurable value, safety, and accessible design.

The Challenger program brings dedicated teams, reusable tools, and real-world testing to accelerate new services, with flexible travel and hybrid work options in the US.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
• End-to-end delivery: taking software from concept through launch and adoption.
• Technical breadth: full-stack capability across frontend, backend, API, data and cloud tech.
• Applied AI experience: building products with large language models, retrieval, tools, or similar AI patterns.
• Evaluation experience: automated testing and behavioral evaluation for probabilistic systems.
• Live-service ownership: telemetry, debugging, reliability, incident response, recovery and performance.
• User-centered practice: work directly with users, designers and product leaders to turn evidence into decisions.
• Engineering craft: clear specs, maintainable code, code reviews and sound trade-offs.
• Travel and On-site: up to 50% travel and hybrid office flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Start with the user: collaborate with users and domain experts to map real workflows and identify AI value.
• Test assumptions quickly: convert hypotheses into prototypes and small releases with evidence.
• Own complete product slices: build coherent verticals across experience, services, data, AI behavior, and integrations.
• Shape AI behavior: design instructions, context, retrieval, outputs, and tool use with evidence-based adaptation.
• Build the evidence system: create tasks and automated evaluations to show usefulness, safety, accessibility, and improvement.
• Connect outcomes to behavior: instrument journeys to relate adoption to system performance and cost.
• Engineer for responsible use: establish permission boundaries, secure data handling, and graceful degradation.
• Own production quality: release incrementally, monitor live behavior, handle incidents, and improve.
• Make practical trade-offs: balance experience, quality, speed, reliability and cost with deterministic options when suitable.
• Contribute reusable patterns: share components and evaluation assets while staying accountable for performance.
