Job summary

EY is recruiting for a Challenger engineer who will turn emerging AI capabilities into durable products. You’ll work end-to-end, from user conversations to prototypes and secure services, embracing ownership, testing early, and scalable production.

The role emphasizes accessibility, maintainability, and pragmatic trade-offs in a hybrid environment with travel up to 50%. The Challenger Core team develops shared tech, guardrails, and reusable patterns to accelerate delivery while ensuring safety

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant and applicable experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study
• End-to-end delivery: taking software from concept to launch, learning and adoption
• Technical breadth: full-stack capability across frontend, backend, API, data, and cloud
• Applied AI experience: building products with LLMs, retrieval, tools, or similar AI patterns
• Evaluation experience: automated testing and behavioral evaluation for probabilistic systems
• Live-service ownership: telemetry, debugging, reliability, incident response, and recovery
• User-centered practice: working with users, designers, and product leaders to inform decisions
• Engineering craft: clear specs, maintainable code, thoughtful review, and good trade-offs
• This role requires up to 50% travel and hybrid office presence

Responsibilities

• Start with the user and understand real workflows with domain experts
• Test assumptions quickly via concise specs, prototypes, and small releases
• Own complete product slices across experience, services, data, AI behavior, and integrations
• Shape AI behavior: context design, retrieval, structured outputs, and tool use
• Build the evidence system with representative tasks and automated evaluations
• Instrument outcomes to relate adoption and behavior to system performance
• Engineer for responsible use: permissions, data handling, checkpoints, and graceful degradation
• Own production quality: release incrementally, monitor live behavior, handle incidents
