Job summary

Vertafore, a leader in insurance technology, seeks an AI Engineering Leader to own delivery for a core AI product domain in North America. You’ll manage a small team of engineers, stay hands‑on, review code, and shape architecture while shipping AI‑enabled features for agents, carriers, and MGAs.

You’ll partner with product, design, and platform teams to translate complex problems into a practical roadmap, coach engineers, and drive production readiness, observability, and reliable deployment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in machine learning, AI engineering, or applied data science.
• 1-3+ years of direct people management or tech lead experience.
• Hands‑on production experience with LLM‑powered apps, agentic workflows, or document extraction pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with LangChain/LangGraph, vector databases, prompt engineering, and evaluation tooling.
• Experience deploying AI systems in AWS.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for design reviews and stakeholder updates.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a 4–8 person AI engineering team, with 1:1s and growth plans.
• Shape technical direction, review PRs, and make architectural decisions.
• Collaborate with a product manager to translate customer problems into an engineering roadmap.
• Own end‑to‑end delivery of AI features within your domain.
