Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking an Applied Data Scientist – AI Enablement to build internal AI capabilities for the Transportation Business Group. The role combines data engineering, model lifecycle management, and cross-functional collaboration to scale AI solutions across HDR’s infrastructure.

In early phases, focus is internal; later, roles expand to advisory work and client-facing delivery using proven solutions as repeatable services. This is a high-impact, employee-owned environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a closely related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3+ years experience with data engineering tools such as SQL, Power Query, and Pandas.
• 3+ years experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, Seaborn, and Matplotlib.
• 3+ years experience with data science languages such as Python and R.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to multitask.
• Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Outlook; ability to handle confidential information.
• Excellent writing and communication skills; strong math and organizational skills.
• Flexibility to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Active participation in employee-owned culture.
• Deep knowledge of ML algorithms, statistical models, and data analytics.
• Experience completing multiple data science projects.

Responsibilities

• Internal AI capability development: design, develop, and deploy AI solutions; build reusable AI components and data pipelines; manage full model lifecycle.
• Constraint and bottleneck identification: identify data, systems, tooling, governance gaps; collaborate with IT and data architects to propose scalable improvements.
• Collaboration and communication: translate ambiguous problems into structured AI solutions; clearly communicate AI concepts to diverse audiences.
• Future client-facing work: support client pursuits and pilot projects; contribute to repeatable AI services and offerings.
