Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Strategy & Operations Manager for its Communications team in San Francisco. You will translate priorities into action, lead cross-functional initiatives, and design AI-forward workflows that improve how the team operates.

You’ll partner with senior leaders and technical builders to bring structure to ambiguity, strengthen execution, and drive high-impact results in a hybrid environment with relocation support.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in strategy and operations, program leadership, or related field.
• Experience partnering with senior leaders to drive cross-functional initiatives.
• Track record delivering initiatives from idea to measurable results.
• Experience introducing AI tools and AI-enabled workflows.
• Strong strategic judgment; separating high-impact work from busy work.
• Ability to translate ambiguous challenges into clear plans and milestones.
• Strong analytical skills and data-driven decision making.
• Experience using no-code or automation tools to streamline work.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management across functions.
• Organized and able to manage multiple complex initiatives without losing sight of context.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic initiatives and special projects across Communications, turning ambiguous opportunities into defined problems, plans and implementations.
• Shape how the team sets priorities, decisions, and follows through on key work including launches and campaigns.
• Design an AI-forward approach to project and program management, building momentum and clear ownership.
• Build operating rhythms, planning frameworks, and shared processes to reduce meetings and manual tracking.
• Translate AI capabilities into practical workflows to reduce repetitive work and improve coordination.
• Drive adoption of new tools and ways of working across Communications with systems builders and team leads.
• Collaborate with senior leaders to translate priorities into clear plans, milestones, and outcomes.
• Foster partnerships across Communications, Marketing, Global Affairs, Product and other teams.
• Use data and qualitative insights to evaluate effectiveness and measure impact.
• Create a culture of clear ownership, experimentation, and high-quality execution.
