Job summary

SoftWriters is seeking a Manager of Software Engineering to lead multiple engineering teams, modernize products, and drive their shift toward an agent-first, AI-enabled SDLC. You will hire, mentor, and scale teams while collaborating with stakeholders to ensure value delivery.

The role is hybrid in Pittsburgh with core office days Tue–Thu, reporting to the Director of Software Engineering. A strong background in software development, leadership, and AI tooling is required.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Information Science, MIS or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years hands-on technical leadership and people leadership experience.
• Experience building and leading a diverse team of engineers.
• Experience with Scrum teams and self-organized teams.
• Strong foundations in data structures and algorithms.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Experience leading through tooling, process, or technology changes.
• Experience with SOLID, IOC/DI, ORM, and unit testing.
• Experience with relational databases (SQL, Oracle, MySQL).
• Experience with source control systems (Git, TFS, SVN).
• Strong customer service orientation.

• Provide recommendations on trends, design, and AI-assisted development approaches.

• Coach engineers toward adoption and handle friction constructively.
