Job summary

Leidos is seeking AI Software Developers (Jr, Mid, Senior) to join the Air Traffic Business Area within Homeland Sector. You will design and implement microservices in a SAFe/Agile environment, focusing on real-time, safety-critical systems with AI-enabled capabilities.

The role offers hybrid work (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) within commutable distances to Gaithersburg, MD; Eagan, MN; or Egg Harbor Township, NJ, or 100% remote for non-local candidates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years (Junior), 4+ years (Mid), 8+ years (Senior) of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in Java or C++ with production software experience.
• Experience designing and developing microservices-based applications.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design and implementation.
• Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Experience with relational (PostgreSQL, Oracle) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) databases.
• Solid experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Familiarity with Agile/SAFe frameworks and iterative delivery.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust / U.S. citizenship.
• Experience with performance engineering and API versioning.
• Experience modernizing legacy software into service-based architectures.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop microservices that form the backbone of the L-CAP platform.
• Collaborate with architects to translate designs into scalable implementations.
• Implement RESTful APIs and event-driven integrations in a hybrid cloud data mesh.
• Integrate with relational and NoSQL databases; ensure data consistency and performance.
• Perform performance tuning and optimization of distributed services.
• Lead code reviews and enforce coding standards.
• Mentor junior developers and support their growth.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across services, APIs, and infrastructure.
• Produce technical documentation: design docs, API specs, runbooks.
• Participate in SAFe/Agile ceremonies and PI planning.
• Conduct performance engineering including profiling and latency analysis.
• Maintain interface stability and backward compatibility during modernization.
• Modernize legacy ATC functions into cloud-native services.
• Adopt AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and quality.
