Job summary

Avalara, Inc. seeks a Business Intelligence Analyst to join the Global Analytics and Insights team. You will provide analytical insights enabling GTM strategy, develop scalable models, and influence customer lifecycle management decisions.

The role blends business acumen with statistics and AI tools to automate repetitive analysis, accelerate insights, and inform product and channel decisions across multiple geographies. Collaborative, high-visibility work awaits.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of relevant work experience in analyzing large, multi-dimensional data sets.
• Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or Mathematics.
• Fluent in SQL and Excel; experience with visualization tools such as Power BI and building statistical models preferred.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or similar) for data analysis, summarization, or workflow automation.
• Working knowledge of automating recurring reporting or data workflows using AI/scripting (e.g., Python, low-code automation platforms, or AI agents) preferred.
• Comfort with prompt engineering and evaluating AI-generated output critically.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Bias toward insight over output and ability to translate questions into actionable recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Collect, analyze, and interpret data from multiple sources to identify trends and insights tied to business objectives.
• Perform ad-hoc analyses to support decisions and drive operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate data needs into analytical solutions.
• Validate data and ensure accuracy and reliability of reports.
• Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Strategy, and Customer Success on programs; provide clear recommendations.
• Provide deep-dives and monitor performance across business units.
• Design and execute testing strategies to improve channel performance.
• Integrate data from 3rd party sources and develop ML-based propensity/value models.
• Synthesize data into narratives that drive action beyond dashboards.
• Leverage AI to accelerate analysis and draft first-pass narratives for review.
