Job summary

BronxWorks Afterschool seeks dedicated staff to supervise children and youth in grades K–8, ensuring safety and well-being during all activities. You will support academics, recreation, enrichment, and cultural programs while modeling positive behavior.

You will collaborate with leadership to create structured weekly lesson plans, facilitate group activities, and maintain attendance and program records. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3 months to 1 year experience working with youth in recreational, educational and/or social settings.
• Clearance through New York State Central Registry and NY State Office of Children and Family Services required.
• Experience with or knowledge of best practices in youth development preferred.
• Experience with or knowledge of whole language philosophy preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee safe supervision of children and youth in grades K–8 with appropriate staff-to-child ratios.
• Document daily attendance headcounts and track children's whereabouts during activities.
• Collaborate with Program Director/Coordinator to plan and coordinate youth activities, including STEM/STEAM, literacy, fitness, and social–emotional development.
• Provide classroom management and instruction; model respectful, age-appropriate guidance.
• Attend mandated trainings and staff sessions; complete all compliance requirements.
• Meet monthly with supervisor; participate in regular staff meetings; perform additional duties as assigned.
