Job summary

WHEDco is seeking an Education Coordinator to lead after-school academic programming at The Highbridge Green School in the Bronx. You will oversee ELA, STEM, and homework support, supervise Activity Specialists, and coach staff to deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with our educational approach.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required; Master’s degree or current enrollment in a graduate Education program a plus.
• Minimum of three years of teaching, classroom, or related educational experience.
• Experience supervising, coaching, mentoring, or providing instructional leadership or support to educators or youth-development staff.
• Experience developing and delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans and experiential learning activities in formal or informal educational settings.
• Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Guide the academic vision and curriculum for ELA, STEM, and homework support programming, ensuring activities align with program goals, youth needs, and WHEDco’s educational approach.
• Directly supervise ELA and STEM Activity Specialists, including planning meetings, review of lesson plans, observations, and coaching.
• Support staff in developing engaging, hands-on lessons that build academic skills while fostering curiosity and student choice.
• Identify and share curriculum resources and facilitate planning workshops to strengthen instructional practices.
• Oversee quality of homework support and coach staff on strategies that build independence and positive learning habits.
• Promote SEL principles and WHEDco’s whole-child approach throughout programming.
• Develop and facilitate professional development opportunities for program staff in areas like lesson planning and instructional strategies.
• Model effective instructional practices and provide coaching based on observations and program evaluation.
• Maintain and oversee the program library and ensure resources are accessible and appropriate.
• Collaborate with leadership to ensure quality and consistency of programming and participate in leadership meetings.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with school staff to align after-school programming with student needs.
• Assist with general supervision, student engagement, behavior management, and events as needed.
• Support program assessment, documentation, reporting, and evaluation.
• Fulfill the DYCD Content Specialist duties, including content oversight and collaboration with leadership.
