BronxWorks seeks an Activity Specialist in Bronx, NY to design and deliver STEM, performing arts, literacy and physical activities for youth. You will develop lessons, model teaching techniques, and coordinate trips with program staff in a nurturing, kid-centered environment.

Responsibilities include creating weekly lesson plans, promoting literacy and academic skills, supervising junior counselors, and maintaining student records. Experience with youth programs and NYS clearances is preferred.

Qualifications

• Two years direct experience working with children under 13 in a recreational, educational and social environment preferred.
• Clearance through NYS Central Registry and NYS Office of Children and Family Services required.
• Family Services required

Responsabilités

• With supervisors, set goals for STEM performing Arts, Literacy, Creative Arts or Physical recreation instruction.
• Develop STEM curriculum; develop and implement lessons with program participants.
• Model instructional techniques for Youth Workers.
• Coordinate lessons with other planned STEM activities including trips.
• Create nurturing environment for youth.
• Engage participants in activities that support academic and creative enrichment.
• Practice and recognize program values: Cooperation, Generosity, Honesty, Kindness, Respect, Responsibility, Tolerance
• Set program goals and develop appropriate activities for children with program supervisors.
• Collaborate with colleagues to plan team projects and events.
• Supervise teenaged junior counselors.
• Encourage a love of learning and build children’s literacy and academic skills.
• Develop, submit and implement weekly lesson plans that are child-centered and age-appropriate.
• Escort children on trips and identify opportunities for learning inside/outside the center.
• Maintain records of children’s work; submit portfolios for evaluation.
• Meet regularly with supervisors to present lesson plans and receive feedback.
• Provide homework assistance during the school year.
• Create a structured and nurturing environment supporting children’s emotional and social development.
• Provide constant supervision and engagement of children in care.
• Maintain an organized, child-centered classroom; promote teamwork.
• Conference with program supervisors regarding disciplinary issues or discuss with parents as needed.
• Attend training in early childhood development, nutrition, safety and prevention of abuse.
• Assist with planning and implementation of Holiday Camp.
• Maintain attendance, meal records and required paperwork; submit reports to Program Director.
• Engage in activities promoting physical fitness and health; ensure a safe environment; participate in swimming and gym.

Formation

Some College credits, Associate Degree preferred
