Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta is seeking an Afterschool Counselor II to lead groups afterschool activities and support school-age learning at Cowart Family Ashford Dunwoody YMCA in Dunwoody, GA. You will coordinate activities, monitor progress, and ensure safety and compliance with program requirements.

Responsibilities include maintaining records, attending trainings, and assisting with virtual learning assignments.

Qualifications

• Must possess Para Pro Certification or AA/BA degree validated with GAPDS.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• 3+ years of experience working with school-age children in a group setting.
• Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification within the first 30 days of employment.
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Classroom and Zoom.
• Must pass Bright from the Start (BFTS) background check.
• Able to pass pre-employment background check including Criminal Record, Drug Screening, MVR and references.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Lead assigned groups in planned activities that build skills for school success.
• Create an environment with varied activities to support program goals.
• Discuss and report concerns with the Site Director.
• Maintain compliance with BFTS and YMCA requirements.
• Compile attendance and other required records.
• Coordinate supply orders with Site Director.
• Attend BFTS, YMCA and other trainings; maintain hours.
• Consult with Site Director on student development or behavior concerns.
• Contribute to program planning and development.
• Complete monthly self-assessments of the program.
• Assist students with virtual learning assignments as required by their school district.
