Job summary

JCC East Bay is seeking an Afterschool Assistant Teacher for its Kids’ Club program in Oakland, CA. The role supports TK–5 students, creating engaging activities and maintaining a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Hours are approximately 20–25 per week, September through May. The position offers a part-time schedule with a focus on supportive supervision, learning activities, and collaboration with the Program Director and Afterschool staff.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of childcare or equivalent experience in TK or Elementary preferred.
• Associate’s Degree or Higher, or 48 Semester College units; AND
• Pass the Alameda County Paraprofessional Proficiency Test within six months from start of employment.
• Experience working with children TK-5 and ability to plan activities for different age groups.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Develop lesson plans and activities aligned with program vision.
• Prepare materials with safety and engagement in mind.
• Tutor individual students or small groups as needed.
• Maintain student behavior according to policy.
• Document attendance, incidents, and other records as directed.
• Communicate with Afterschool team and parents as needed.
• Lead a classroom and collaborate with other staff.
• Attend weekly staff meetings.
