Job summary

Greater Burlington YMCA in Barre, VT, is seeking an Afterschool Staff member to support youth programming after school. The role focuses on safety, engagement, and mentoring children aged 5 to 12, under the direction of the Program Director.

The position runs Monday to Friday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with occasional early release days and vacation camps. Competitive hourly pay begins at $19.00, with growth based on experience and education.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Highschool diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to pass a federal background check and state fingerprinting.
• At least 6 months of experience working with children.
• Have reliable transportation for consistent attendance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Safety: maintain supervision and keep spaces clean/organized, take attendance, head counts, and follow emergency procedures.
• Engage: participate in program activities including interactive sessions such as swimming or field trips and deliver content in a dynamic, relatable way.
• Grow: maintain required certifications (first aid/CPR), Vermont Orientation, and Mandated Reporting; keep BFIS documentation up to date.
• Support: communicate concerns to the Y Program Director; be flexible to substitute at other sites; support programming execution.
• Collaborate: attend staff meetings, contribute ideas to improve program quality; assist in planning diverse programming.
• Be a Professional: interact with participants and guardians with maturity and respect; maintain time cards.
