Burlington School District is seeking Afterschool Core Staff for middle schools in Burlington, Vermont. Core Staff plan and run activities, interact with students and families, and ensure a fun, safe environment compliant with licensing and school regulations.

Qualifications

• Be at least eighteen years of age
• Ability to work at least 1 day a week from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• Maintain high level of attendance and punctuality
• Ability to manage challenging student behaviors
• Strong communication with parents, staff and coworkers
• Be flexible, take initiative and open to feedback
• Able to collaborate with all school-day and afterschool staff
• Knowledge of safety principles for group activities
• Experience with direct interaction with students and diverse populations
• Hold current first aid/CPR certification or willingness to be trained
• Pass criminal background check
• Enthusiastic, creative, and culturally competent
• Ability to pass background check

Responsibilities

• Follow and enforce all program, department, and school rules and regulations
• Lead a group of up to 10–13 students independently or with other staff as directed
• Plan and lead activities, submit weekly lesson plans when appropriate
• Attend monthly staff meetings and trainings
• Engage students, show leadership, provide constructive feedback
• Provide academic support during Homework Help
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment
• Report safety deficiencies to the site leader and administer First Aid/CPR as required
• Demonstrate cultural competence in interactions
• Report accidents and incidents to Site Directors and document appropriately
• Participate in program evaluation and accept feedback
• Report to Site Director and perform other duties as required
