Job summary

YMCA of the East Bay is seeking Group Leaders for the Y Scholars Program after school. You will supervise students, plan engaging activities across academics, STEAM, sports, and arts, and connect school-day learning with afterschool support.

Ideal candidates are committed to safety, development, and positive relationships with students, families, and school staff, and have 48 college units or IA exam; DOJ/FBI background check required; 18+; CPR/First Aid within 30 days.

Qualifications

• Must have 48 semester college units, or successful completion of the IA Exam.
• Experience working with youth in a similar environment preferred.
• Demonstrate a love of working with youth and being a positive role-model.
• Ability to relate to diverse groups of people from all backgrounds.
• Knowledge of core elementary and middle school subjects.
• Strong classroom and behavioral management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must pass DOJ/FBI criminal background check.
• TB Test Clearance.
• At least 18 years of age.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Actively supervise all students to ensure safety.
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
• Maintain accurate attendance records.
• Help plan program events and culminating activities.
• Work with staff to ensure program quality and safety.
• Submit curriculum overviews and lesson plans aligned with goals.
• Provide homework help and academic skill building when required.
• Communicate progress and issues to supervisor.
• Follow safety policies and procedures.
• Attend staff meetings and build positive relationships with stakeholders.
