Job summary

Flatbush Development Corporation in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a Group Leader to supervise and support youth in grades K–8 afterschool.

You will facilitate activities, assist with homework, ensure safety, and help deliver high-quality programs in line with DYCD and NYCDOE guidelines.

This part-time role offers meaningful community impact for 20 hours per week, with an $18 per hour wage and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; some college or coursework in education or youth development strongly preferred.
• Experience working with school-age children (K–8) in afterschool, camp, or youth development settings.
• Ability to lead activities, manage groups, and engage youth with diverse needs and backgrounds.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Must pass all required background checks, fingerprinting, and DOE clearance.

Responsibilities

• Supervise program participants at all times during program operation, including off-site trips.
• Assist in safe pickup and delivery of participants as assigned by the program director.
• Provide active homework assistance to ensure engagement during homework time.
• Plan and implement engaging academic enrichment and recreation activities with literacy, STEAM, youth development, and community service.
• Prepare daily lesson plans and unit outlines, using curricular materials provided.
• Facilitate guidance and support sessions with staff as needed and ensure space is prepared.
• Support youth development through positive behavior guidance and relationship-building.
• Participate in meetings and trainings, including a minimum of 15 hours per year.
• Adhere to program procedures and safety guidelines and report incidents as required.
