Job summary

Gilmour Academy seeks an Aftercare Assistant to supervise and engage students from toddler to Grade 6 in a safe, nurturing aftercare setting. You will support daily routines, activities, snacks, homework, and enrichment programs, while maintaining attendance and smooth transitions from dismissal to aftercare.

Candidates should hold a high school diploma or equivalent, CPR/First Aid, and have experience with early childhood or school-age environments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required (CDA or Paraprofessional Certification preferred).
• CPR and First Aid Certification (required).
• Experience working with toddlers in a daycare, preschool, or early childhood setting preferred.
• Ability to work with students from toddler through Grade 6.
• Ability to supervise students and maintain a safe, nurturing environment.
• Follow established safety, supervision, attendance, and student transition procedures.
• Patience, compassion, and a genuine passion for supporting children’s development.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to work with faculty, staff, students and parents.
• Experience with Montessori or child-centered learning approaches is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily aftercare flow, including attendance checks and activities.
• Ensure proper adult-to-student ratios across activities at all times.
• Manage secure sign-out procedures and verify authorized adults.
• Maintain program spaces (cafeteria, gym, classrooms) and manage supplies.
• Submit attendance logs for accurate billing with families.

The Aftercare Assistant supports the daily operations of the aftercare program by providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for students from toddler through Grade 6. The position supervises students and supports daily routines, activities, homework, snacks, and enrichment programming. The Aftercare Assistant also assists with attendance, student transitions, program organization, and communication with students, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the daily aftercare flow, including attendance checks, snack time, homework blocks, outdoor play, and enrichment activities.
• Ensure proper adult-to-student ratios are maintained across all groups and activity areas at all times.
• Manage secure sign-out procedures, verifying authorized adults and accounting for all students transitioning from standard school hours to aftercare.
• Maintain designated program spaces (cafeteria, gym, classrooms) and manage supplies for daily activities and games
• Maintain accurate daily sign-in/sign-out records and submit attendance logs to the business office to ensure precise billing for hourly, drop-in, or contracted families.
