Job summary

Gilmour Academy is seeking an Aftercare Assistant to support the daily operations of the aftercare program for students from toddler through Grade 6. You will supervise students, assist with activities, and help with attendance, transitions and communication with families and staff.

Responsibilities include coordinating daily flow (attendance, snacks, homework, outdoor play), maintaining safe adult-to-student ratios, and organizing spaces.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CPR and First Aid certification required.
• Experience with toddlers in daycare, preschool or early childhood setting preferred.
• Ability to supervise students from toddler through Grade 6 and maintain safety.

Aftercare Assistant The Aftercare Assistant supports the daily operations of the aftercare program by providing a safe, nurturing and engaging environment for students from toddler through Grade 6. The position supervises students and supports daily routines, activities, homework, snacks and enrichment programming. The Aftercare Assistant also assists with attendance, student transitions, program organization and communication with students, families and staff.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the daily aftercare flow including attendance checks, snack time, homework blocks, outdoor play and enrichment activities
• Ensure proper adult to student ratios are maintained across all groups and activity areas at all times
• Manage secure sign-out procedures verifying authorized adults and accounting for all students transitioning from standard school hours to aftercare
• Maintain designated program spaces (cafeteria, gym, classrooms) and manage supplies for daily activities and games
• Maintain accurate daily sign‑ins/sign‑outs records and submit attendance logs to the business office to ensure precise billing for hourly drop‑in or contracted families

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• CDA or Paraprofessional Certification preferred
• CPR and First Aid Certification required
• Experience working with toddlers in a daycare, preschool or early childhood setting preferred
• Ability to work with students from toddler through Grade 6
• Ability to effectively supervise students and maintain a safe nurturing and orderly environment
• Ability to follow established safety, supervision, attendance and student transition procedures
• Patience, compassion and a genuine passion for supporting children's social, emotional and cognitive development
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students and parents
• Experience with Montessori or child-centered learning approaches is a plus
