Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking a part-time Program Leader for the Kolar Family YMCA in Downey, CA, to support after-school programming for TK–8 students. You’ll supervise activities from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., roughly 18–21 hours weekly, with paid training and seasonal grant-backed duties.

You will lead enrichment clubs, homework help, and active play, while fostering a safe, welcoming environment and building strong relationships with students, families, and school staff.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with school-age children in a group setting.
• Experience leading enrichment activities, recreation, academics, sports, arts, or other skill-based programs.
• Strong communication skills, emotional maturity, and the ability to build positive, authentic relationships with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
• Current EMSA First Aid and Adult, Infant, and Child CPR certifications, or the ability to obtain required certifications as a condition of employment.
• Background clearances prior to working with participants.

• Lead hands-on enrichment activities, homework support, recreation, and skill-based clubs that inspire curiosity, creativity, and confidence.
• Build meaningful relationships with students, families, school staff, and fellow team members while serving as a positive role model.
• Encourage teamwork, positive behavior, and a sense of belonging by creating experiences where every child can succeed.
• Help ensure the program operates safely and effectively while supporting the YMCA's commitment to youth development, academic success, and community well-being.
