Job summary

The Salvation Army Kroc Center Memphis is seeking a recreation assistant to run planned activities for youth and adults, supervise the game room, and help organize Day Camp and after-school programs.

You will maintain attendance records, ensure participants’ safety, and enforce all camp and facility rules. The role requires physical capability, including lifting up to 50 lbs, swimming, and outdoor/indoor work.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Prior experience working with children is required or strongly preferred.
• Must be able to supervise children and enforce safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Executes planned activities for participants, youth and adults, including Day Camp programs and after-school activities.
• Oversees the game room as needed and provides guidance for planned recreational activities.
• Maintains program records such as attendance and sign-in/sign-out logs.
• Enforces all rules pertaining to camp, children’s programs, and facility consistently.
• Observes and supervises participants, maintains control, and uses appropriate discipline techniques.

This position is responsible for:Executes planned activities for participants, both youth and adults, which may include Day Camp Program, after-school programs, and recreational classes; provides oversight of the game room as needed; make suggestions for planned recreational activities and play time; maintains program records, i.e. attendance records, parent sign in and out log; maintains cleanliness and orderliness of Kroc Center Property.Key Responsibilities:Gathers and sets up appropriate supplies and materials for planned recreational activities; ensures the children participants’ safety in utilizing the same.Enforces all rules that pertain to the camp, children’s program, and facility on a constant basis.Organizes and supervises recreational activities; observes, monitors, and supervises participants; maintains control of the participants and when needed displays proper discipline techniquesEnsures the safety and protection of participants at all timesPhysical Requirements/Working Conditions.Meets attendance requirementsMust be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the gymnasium and athletic field programs.Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs;Must be willing and able to swim, get wet, and/or subject to getting dirty while working with children.Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.Education and ExperienceHigh School diploma or GEDOrAny equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilitiesMust have prior experience working with childrenEqual Opportunity Employer: Veterans | Disabled
