Job summary

The Salvation Army Southern Territory is seeking staff to lead camp programs for children and adults, including classroom training, tutoring, sports, Bible study, computer programs and specialized activities. Duties include maintaining clean recreational and outdoor areas and fostering a positive, safe environment.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, 1–2 years’ teaching child development experience, and be able to obtain state licensing background checks; CPR/First Aid

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years’ experience teaching child development programs.
• Ability to pass all state licensing background checks.
• CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain).
• Lifeguard Certification (preferred)
• Ropes Course Certification (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Leads children and adult activities for camp programs, including classroom training, tutoring, sports activities, Bible study, computer programs and specialized programs; maintains the cleanliness of the recreational and outdoor activities areas.
• Maintains a positive, relaxed atmosphere during activities and promotes encouraging conversation.
• Ensures accountability, security and safety of guests participating in outdoor activities; reports accidents to supervisor promptly.

Schedule/Hours:As NeededThis position is responsible for:Leads children and adult activities for camp programs, including classroom training, tutoring, sports activities, Bible study, computer programs and specialized programs; maintains the cleanliness of the recreational and outdoor activities areas.Key Responsibilities:Provides constant care for the needs of the children and adults in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure and healthy manner.Provides positive, relaxed atmosphere during educational and outdoor activities, and promotes encouraging conversation.Ensures the accountability, security and safety of guests participating in outdoor activities; reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to meet attendance requirements.Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.Ability to observe children and ensure their safety.Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing and walking on a frequent change basis.Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.Working Conditions:Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.Education and Experience:High school diploma or G.E.D. required,ANDOne to two years’ experience teaching child development programs,ORAny equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilitiesANDAbility to pass all state licensing background checks.Licenses and Certifications:CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain)Lifeguard Certification (preferred)Ropes Course Certification (preferred)Equal Opportunity Employer Veterans/Disabled
