Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking a part-time High School Tutor to support LAUSD high school students on-site at Crenshaw Family YMCA. The seasonal role provides after-school tutoring in Math, Science, or English Language Arts, with small group instruction and targeted academic support.

The ideal candidate is a credentialed educator or retired teacher who can build relationships, foster confidence, and help students succeed in academics during the school year.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years or older.
• Valid California Teaching Credential.
• Experience working with teens in educational/tutoring settings.
• Subject matter expertise in high school Math, Science, or ELA.
• Strong communication and organizational skills for a supportive environment.
• EMSA First Aid and CPR certifications, or ability to obtain.
• Health screenings and background clearances prior to working with participants.

Responsibilities

• Provide tutoring in Math, Science, or English Language Arts to high school students.
• Create a welcoming, supportive learning environment encouraging questions and growth.
• Inspire students to stay motivated and develop positive study habits.
• Collaborate with YMCA team members to monitor progress and celebrate growth.
• Foster meaningful relationships and a safe, inclusive learning environment.
