Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking a High School Tutor for after-school programs at a North Valley/Porter Ranch LAUSD campus. You will provide subject-specific tutoring in Math, Science, or English Language Arts, in small groups, and help students build confidence and mastery.

The role is part-time, seasonal, following the school calendar, typically 1–2 days per week with about 4 hours weekly. Previous teaching credential and teen tutoring experience are preferred.

• Valid California Teaching Credential.
• Experience working with teens in an educational setting.
• Subject matter expertise in Math, Science, or ELA.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

Working on an LAUSD high school campus, you’ll provide targeted academic support in small groups, helping students strengthen their understanding, complete coursework, and build the confidence they need to reach their goals. This is a grant‑funded, seasonal position supporting high school students during the academic year.

• Collaborate with YMCA Team Members to identify student needs, monitor progress, and celebrate academic growth.

Schedule

This is a part‑time, seasonal position that follows the school calendar and is offered during the academic year on school days only. Tutors typically work 1 to 2 days per week, providing approximately 4 hours of after school tutoring each week on an LAUSD high school campus. Additional opportunities may be available to participate in staff meetings, trainings, or student engagement activities throughout the school year.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Twenty‑one (21) years of age or older.
• Valid California Teaching Credential.
• Current, former, or retired high school teachers are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Experience working with teens in an educational, classroom, or tutoring environment.
• Subject matter expertise in high school Math, Science, or English Language Arts.
• Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to create a welcoming, supportive, and academically focused environment.
• Current EMSA First Aid and Adult, Infant, and Child CPR certifications, or the ability to obtain required certifications as a condition of employment.
• Completion of required health screenings and background clearances prior to working with participants.
