Job summary

The YWCA NYC is seeking a part-time Group Leader for after-school programs in New York City. You will oversee elementary and/or middle school students, support homework help, and implement engaging curricula between 2:00pm and 6:00pm across multiple neighborhoods.

Responsibilities include supervising safety, collaborating with staff, communicating with families, and maintaining accurate records. DOE/ DYCD alignment and anti-racism commitments are essential.

Qualifications

• 2+ years working in after-school programs or education/youth programs
• GED or High School Diploma; college enrollment preferred
• Anti-racism and gender equity principles knowledge
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient with email, SharePoint and Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, TEAMS, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Bilingual Spanish/English is a bonus

Responsibilities

• Lead homework help classroom and support students with tutoring using recognized learning standards
• Run group dynamic games and SEL activities
• Collaborate in implementing STEM activities in literacy-based arts curricula
• Create a positive, engaging learning environment with effective classroom management
• Engage students and assist program specialists in facilitation
• Ensure activities align with DYCD COMPASS and SONYC requirements and organizational goals
• Align curriculum with youth development principles and student interests
• Adapt teaching to diverse learning needs and abilities
• Prepare participants to showcase skills at culminating events with school staff
• Supervise safety and welfare of students; maintain attendance
